About Michael and Lititia…. Owner of Hoala Salon & Spa.
Blanca is an Elite Stylist with 25 years of experience – 9 of them with Aveda – and she’s still loving every minute! “I have a passion for cuts and color, customizing each style for a refreshing and modern look,” says Blanca. She keeps fit due to her love of exercise, and enjoys reading and cooking authentic Mexican dishes. Blanca also owns a salon in Mexico.
Diana has 12 years of experience in the industry, working in New York, California, Minnesota, and Hawai‘i. She loves to help people look their best, so they feel their best! Diana’s work has been inspired by fashion, and her travels around the world. On her days off, Diana enjoys all outdoor activities, such as running and swimming, and she also loves yoga and cooking.
Howard has been a stylist for 12 years, training and working with Vidal Sassoon, Toni & Guy, and Aveda. He loves doing cuts and color, and is especially good with blonde coloring, which can be very challenging. In his spare time, Howard’s hobbies include cars, golfing, hiking, and, most recently, going to the rifle and pistol range. He just likes having fun – and loves eating!
Renee comes to us at Hoʻala with three years of salon experience around Oahu and the Big Island. She enjoys making people look and feel fabulous and confident. By achieving that she says there’s “no greater feeling”. When not helping her clients be the most fabulous they can be, Renee enjoys hanging out at the beach and hiking.
Yong has many years of experience with Aveda. She dedicated her life to the art and craft of hair, and, along the way, had great mentors who shared their knowledge. “I’m just trying to do the same thing with others,” says Yong. Her specialties are cuts, color, hair extensions, and straight perms. Yong graduated from Hollywood Beauty College, and also studied at Vidal Sassoon Academy in New York and Minneapolis. Yong’s hobbies are yoga, hiking, ice skating, drawing and healthy cooking.
Jonathan is a seasoned Aveda stylist. He received his initial training at the Gary Manuel Aveda Institute in Seattle, Washington, then completing his advanced studies at the Academy Salon Program- Aveda Vancouver Institute. Jonathan views every haircut as an “art form”, he wants everyone to feel and look their best.
Dorene Furtado brings her hairstyling expertise to Ho’ala after working for a top colorist in San Francisco. Dorene has experience in razor cutting and creative color. She loves providing her guests with beautiful color as well as haircuts featuring long layers and even bobs! Dorene loves Ho’ala’s location in one of the most premiere shopping destinations in the world. She loves her craft and says, “If I had all the money in the world, I would still do hair!” In her time off, she loves practicing yoga, Outrigger canoe paddling, and spending time with her daughter.
Sooyun received her training across the Pacific at the International Beauty Technical Institute in Seoul, Korea. She enjoys cutting and coloring on all hair types as well as perms. Sooyun specializes in digital perms and has tremendous experience in doing them. In fact, we offer the service because of her! Sue is “really proud of Aveda products with their all-natural ingredients”. Her everyday goal is to listen to clients’ needs and looks forward to making your day more beautiful here at Hoʻala!
Katy received her cosmetology training at Honolulu Community College. After graduation, she worked in a salon on Kauai and internationally in Thailand. Katy specializes in long layered haircuts, and hair extensions. She loves the friendly co-workers and staff at Hoʻala, coupled with the excellent color and product lines that only Aveda can bring.
Anjalee completed advanced two year training with Aveda . Her favorite part of being a stylist is everything- from color to haircuts to hairstyling. Anjalee is committed to giving clients the complete look they want. “I’m a good listener,” she says. She loves the relaxing and tranquil atmosphere at Hoʻala and believes you will too!
Kevin received his initial training in Las Vegas and worked at the busy Venetian Salon on the famed Vegas Strip. He has traveled and done hair all over the mainland from Denver to Florida. Now he finds himself in our beautiful island state! His specialties include providing his clients with flattering color or highlights and short, funky women’s and men’s cuts. Kevin finds that working at Hoʻala “emulates the true Aveda experience from the moment you walk in until the time you leave.”
Michelle trained to be one of our stylists at the Vidal Sassoon Academy. She also has experience behind the scenes at Miss Hawaii and various fashion shows around the island. Her favorite part of being a stylist is “the ability to give clients exactly what they want and making them feel like anything is possible!” When she’s not behind the shears, you can find Michelle volunteering for hospice care.
Brad hails from New York City where he has 25 years of salon experience and was a salon owner himself. He prides himself on his fantastic work and believes he can give you a “total transformation”. He enjoys working at Hoʻala thanks to the “calm, nurturing, and supportive atmosphere”. Brad hopes to bring some NYC energy to Oahu!
Armida graduated from the Honolulu School of Massage in 1999. She also received her aesthetician’s license in 2004. Armida is Aveda-trained and proficient in all Aveda body and skincare treatments. “I enjoy the creativity and tranquility of my work, because I make others feel better,” says Armida. Outside of work, Armida enjoys cooking and surfing, and she recently joined a roller derby team!
Heidi has been in the beauty industry for 22 years. She received her Beauty Operator License in 1993, and has been working as an aesthetician ever since – at a luxury resort spa, and then with Aveda since 2000. Heidi has been trained extensively with the Aveda product line, and has had the privilege of visiting the Aveda Institute and Headquarters in Minneapolis. She is a trainer at Ho‘ala, which she absolutely enjoys. “What I like most about this industry is that I can help people feel a little less stressed and a little more beautiful,” says Heidi. Outside of work, Heidi enjoys drinking coffee, going to the North Shore with her family, Bollywood movies, reading fashion or home decorating magazines, and drinking more coffee!
Lani has 3 years of experience as an aesthetician. She attended Honolulu Community College’s Beauty & Cosmetology Program, and trained with Aveda. She enjoys making her guests feel and look better. She loves that her job allows her to help people and give them a moment to relax and rejuvenate. Lani enjoys spending time at the beach with her family, and
lying in her hammock reading a fashion magazine.
While Takako was growing up, she used to give massages to her grandfather, father, and other family members at home. This led her to become a Licensed Massage Therapist in Hawai‘i in 2005. She has been with Aveda for 4 years, and enjoys making her guests relax and feel better naturally. Takako also practices lymph drainage therapy, reiki, raindrop technique, and small animal massage on her own. Takako speaks Japanese, English, and Spanish.
Terri has been a massage therapist for over 10 years. The decision to choose this career path stemmed from her lifelong fascination with the human body and its functions. “I strive to give our spa guests an experience that benefits both the mind and body at the same time,” she says. She thoroughly enjoys working in the nurturing, calm atmosphere of Ho‘ala, which also nurtures her artistic soul. Terri has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, and loves to paint and draw whenever time permits!
Kaori comes to us with global experience. She received her training at the London School of Aromatherapy and Maui Academy of Healing Arts. Kaori also has the privilege to have worked for Aveda in Japan and helped open their first salon and spa in Tokyo! As a certified aromatherapist, she “loves to educate people how to use essential oils to help them relax.”
Kristen has over 13 years of experience in massage therapy. She has practiced in Portland, Oregon as well as on our neighbor island of Kauai. Kristen enjoys helping others through massage feel as fully relaxed and vibrant as they can be. She says her work has been inspired by “educating clients with individual tools that carry lasting results far beyond my massages.”
Andrea has been trained in many different massage techniques including Pre-Natal, Deep Tissue, Hot Stone, and the Hawaiian practice of Lomi Lomi, to name a few. A massage therapist for five years, she has trained here in Hawaii as well as in the island nation of Fiji. Andrea’s favorite part of her job is “helping people through massage.” She says, “Whether they have benefited emotionally or physically from it afterwards, I get great satisfaction from making my guests happy.”
Salina received her training in the Pacific Northwest at the Seattle School of Massage and received her Esthetic License right here on Oahu at Honolulu Community College. She is currently attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology and Hawaiian Medicinal Plants. Salina enjoys waxing, body scrubs and “helping people feel more comfortable in their skin.” Fun Fact about Salina: She’s a certified birth doula!
Megumi has over 6 years of experience in the nail salon. She pays great attention to detail, and likes to deliver serenity to each of her guests. She can see them relax a great deal between the time they meet, and when she is done, and that gives Megumi a great deal of happiness. On her days off, Megumi enjoys relaxing and watching TV.
Satoko has 8 years of experience working in a spa. Before working in Hawai‘i, she also received training in ultra-stylish and hip Harajuku in Tokyo. “I love what I do!” exclaims the always smiling Satoko. “Providing the best services & greatest experience at our salon is my passion!”
Satoko says that she truly believes that service has to come from the heart. She commits herself to doing her best for each guest she meets. In Japanese, this philosophy is call “ichigoichie,” and she lives by it. Satoko really appreciates all her guests’ support and warm friendship. In her free time, Satoko enjoys cooking & reading books.
Christina loves giving her manicures and pedicures “polish”, making sure your nails will be immaculate. She is known around the spa for her total attention to detail. Christina says Hoʻala provides a “wonderful, clean atmosphere”. When not painting beautiful nails, she enjoys dancing Hula and has participated in the renowned Merrie Monarch Festival.
